Article: Can Acrylic Light Fixtures Really Be Luxe?

Can Acrylic Light Fixtures Really Be Luxe?
Traditionally, acrylic is used in lighting as a diffuser - usually as an opal panel beneath a fixture to soften and spread light evenly. But what happens when this material is placed at the heart of the design itself? By playing with colour, textures, techniques, and sculptural forms, we transform acrylic into extraordinary works of light.
Acrylic light fixtures are often seen as modern or industrial, but when thoughtfully designed, they can bring elegance, texture, and sculptural presence to bespoke interiors. At Northern Lights, we’ve reimagined this versatile material as a design-led element, turning it into bespoke lighting solutions for residential, hospitality, and retail projects. From contemporary private residences to grand Parisian dining halls, discover fresh inspiration from our bespoke lighting archives.

Luxury and surrealism intertwine in this whimsical dining experience. Above the private banquet table, three monumental 3-metre-wide pendants showcase acrylic in its traditional role, diffusing light through matt opal panels framed in antique brass and mirrored stainless steel discs. Beneath them, floral table lamps of delicately shaped acrylic petals scatter a gentle glow, blending function with storytelling.

Acrylic in Luxury Hospitality
Spotlight: Le Jardin De Verre
Three-tiered pendants composed of over 130 gracefully curved Perspex panels in soft amber-brown hues are mounted on powder-coated black steel rings, each supporting an individual golfball lamp. Our artisans shaped each panel with precision, turning acrylic into a sculptural, luminous centerpiece that complements natural light and elevates the grandeur of the atrium.
From subtle diffusion to statement luxury, acrylic can take on limitless forms within hospitality design, as demonstrated in this luxurious Parisian space.

The Design Process: Curiosity Meets Craft
By shifting distance, angle, and light source, our designers explore how textured acrylic transforms illumination into mesmerising patterns of reflection and perception. Light is never still - it bends, reflects, and evolves depending on how we guide it. Every experiment unlocks new possibilities, inspiring the next chapter of design.
