Following its acclaimed openings in Dubai and Doha, Shanghai Me brings its signature blend of Pan-Asian cuisine, refined service, and Art Deco elegance to London’s Mayfair, marking the brand’s latest evolution.

Set within the iconic London Hilton on Park Lane, the rooftop restaurant is a celebration of 1930s Shanghai - brought to life through First Within, who appointed Northern Lights to manufacture bespoke lighting throughout the venue.

Working in close collaboration with the designers, our brief was to create statement lighting that would complement the space’s Art Deco glamour and immersive cultural storytelling.

The Restaurant

Guests are welcomed by a dramatic ceiling installation featuring a series of pendants in two cohesive styles, each balancing form and materiality. Faux alabaster panels with an amber tint are layered with ivory silk fabric to maximise light diffusion, while the medium brass metalwork adds warmth and a sophisticated depth. Matching single pendants, suspended in a carefully staggered formation, are fitted with discreet inner pegs to ensure their precise positioning.

This theatrical feature is enhanced with a third pendant style featuring scalloped edges, pleated ivory fabric shades, and matching brass detailing - maintaining visual harmony while introducing variation in silhouette and scale.

Bund Lounge Bar

The lighting takes on a soft, intimate tone in the Bund Lounge bar. Fixed table lamps with elegant reeded brass stems, soft fabric shades, and tassel fringing echo the glamour of the 1930s while creating a warm, relaxed ambiance ideal for evening service.

Every element was expertly handcrafted in our Derbyshire workshop, supporting First Within’s vision to realise a space where old-world elegance meets contemporary refinement.
