As part of the transformation of Sheraton Heathrow’s key public areas, Bell & Swift reimagined the hotel’s reception, lobby lounge and bar to create a more welcoming and contemporary environment for international travellers, airline crews and business guests.

The redesigned lobby lounge was conceived as a flexible social space, balancing moments of relaxation, connection and productivity. The interior scheme combines tactile materials, layered textures and refined finishes to create an elevated yet approachable atmosphere at one of the world’s busiest travel destinations.

Northern Lights was commissioned to create two bespoke feature lighting installations to introduce a focal point within the lounge while complementing the wider interior design. Rather than dominating the space, the design needed to feel integrated - adding visual interest, depth and movement while maintaining a sense of calm.

The bespoke feature pendants were crafted from a series of individually suspended curved steel elements, arranged at varying lengths to create a flowing spiral composition. Each arch, handcrafted in Derbyshire by our artisans, is finished in matt black and paired with glass globes, creating a contemporary contrast between the strength of the metalwork and the softness of the illuminated glass.

Although formed from solid materials, the carefully considered arrangement gives the installation a sense of fluidity and movement, drawing the eye upwards while maintaining an understated presence within the lounge environment.

Alongside the bespoke centrepiece, Northern Lights also supplied a complementary floor lamp from our wider group.

Featuring matt black metalwork, a gently curved off-centre arm and coordinating glass globes, the piece extends the lighting language throughout the space while providing an efficient way to achieve design continuity alongside a more customised focal feature.

The combination of bespoke craftsmanship and carefully selected complementary lighting demonstrates how tailored solutions can be balanced with practical considerations, delivering a cohesive hospitality environment where every lighting element contributes to the overall guest experience.
