The elegance and eccentricity of the original Brasserie have been restored by London-based interior designer Mikic who Vogue once described as a "master of metamorphosis"; Mikic cites his inspiration as a celebration of British craftsmanship with a European flair.
At Langan's, he has curated a timeless aesthetic that draws upon 20th-century design in a fresh and contemporary fashion. With experienced restaurateurs Graziano Arricale and James Hitchen now at the helm, the rebirth of Langan's sees a new three-storey cultural hotspot, restored to its former glory and offering guests a theatrical experience synonymous with Mikic's inimitable artistry and vision.
The opportunity for Northern Lights to work with Peter Mikic on such a historic part of London's incredibly diverse restaurant scene was not to be missed, and we relished the challenging brief the designers had set. To realise Peter's vision for such a high-end establishment as Langan's required in-depth knowledge of classic design trends that stood the test of time and ones that could be given a contemporary twist that would utilise some of our most versatile materials.
Stepping through Langan's hallowed doors, guests enter the ground floor bar. The floor, made from three different marbles, is adorned with a circular 'pop' pattern. The elegant cocktail bar, made from green ceramic noodle tiles, encompasses a stunning curved marble countertop. Our delicately finished countertop twin table lamps are genuine statement pieces that capture the essence and elegance of the exclusive bar area by pairing richly-veined and fully bespoke alabaster domes with polished brass stems and bases.
The most sizeable of our fixtures comes in the form of a 5-light wall installation that comprises a handcrafted polished brass frame, green & silver Preedy Mirror Glass discs and white alabaster shades. The fixture encapsulates the very essence of the restaurant's interior by capturing the opulence of the materials, palettes and aesthetic on display and transforming each element into a bespoke lighting piece that provides both magnificence and operation.
In the main dining room, which sits to the left of the entrance, a palette of sage green is offset by neutral accents. Luxurious soft green banquettes, made from English leather, line the wall, while the Brasserie's marble tables are positioned against a backdrop of original 1920' brass windows, illuminated by the distinctive chandeliers from Venini in Murano.
Our designers realised lighting concepts that would marry with the sage green tones displayed throughout the establishment. Our tri-globe wall sconces overlook the booths beneath them, comprising matt black frames with a polished brass inner and matt opal globes. The top of the fixture is protected by an arch that reflects the diffused light using the inner brass surface, resulting in a warm ambient glow.
On the ceiling areas between each mirrored pillar, our elegant flush mount alabaster and polished brass ceiling lights provide a well-distributed lighting source that haloes the vast array of original prints that sit on the wall beneath them.
