The latest addition to the collection, KOYN, is a two-storey space housed in the former US embassy. It’s set to be a magnet for interior lovers, with the design spearheaded by Samyukta alongside Fabled Studio’s Tom Strother.

The restaurant is split into two distinct areas: Midori and Magma, inspired by the dual nature of Mount Fuji in Japan, both its calm slopes and its fiery centre.

Diners will enter on the ground floor at Midori, a horticultural haven channelling Japanese zen gardens – think light green leather banquette seating and iridescent oyster shell walls, with a marble sushi bar in the middle. Downstairs, meanwhile, you’ll find Magma, a subterranean space featuring black oak ceilings, focused around a charcoal-fuelled timber robata grill with burnt orange stools – a nod to the heat of the volcano. The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Rhys Cattermoul, a former Nobu chef, who continues the theme of duality through his menu, showcasing the broad spectrum of Japanese cuisine.

Northern Lights are no strangers to the world of high-end luxury restaurants. Our work with interior designers around Mayfair and the surrounding areas has been the talk of numerous hospitality publications. The expertly-specified bespoke lighting has shone through in some of the most exquisite interiors. Our work for KOYN was no exception, as our designers and artisans collaborated to deliver captivating pieces that combine pure decadence with unwavering functionality.

To the exterior entrance of the building, two torchieres stand on either side of the doors, welcoming guests with a beautifully diffused aura. The 1.6m fixtures have been hand-finished in a bronze powder coat and applied to real brass. A slumped opal glass cover diffuses the light.

At the KOYN Bar, our large-scale table lamps provide a magnificent spectacle that complements their surroundings perfectly. The matt black ceramic bodies have been hammered to create rustic indentations. The base has been handcrafted from exquisite antique brass, and the twisted funnel shades give the fixtures a great height to truly accentuate their features.

The most iconic fixtures provided to the restaurant come in the form of beautiful wall sconces comprising rich medium brass with tapered textured glass cones. The natural fixture design required a glassblower to create glass cones that resemble icicles, which have been held in place using laser-cut brass support bars.

Finally, the contemporary bathrooms have been illuminated by our tubular bronze and glass wall lights. The metre-high fixtures are on either side of the mirrors and comprise reeded glass rods supported by a laser-cut and hand-applied bronze frame.
