A Poignant Tribute in Light

A the heart of Intu Metrocentre lies a specially commissioned chandelier to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of WW1. Northern Lights were tasked to translate the vision for the vast spaces within the shopping mall into reality with a series of bespoke sculptural lighting installations. 

At 7m high and 3.5m in diameter, the heart of the installation are 60 handcrafted silk poppies, each delicately formed around a wire frame, are individually suspended from a mirror-polished ceiling plate. The scale and soft illumination enhances their presence, creating a striking and emotional tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of our servicemen and women.

In contrast to the soft, flowing floral display, ‘Shard’ pendants constructed from stainless steel and clear acrylic rods emulate crystal and glass shards, adding a dramatic sculptural element and a sense of refined elegance.

Another key feature is a breathtaking heart-shaped chandelier, meticulously crafted from 1,600 crystal-cut glass hearts, each suspended on fine stainless steel wires. Adjustable angled spotlights within the ceiling plate illuminate the glass, ensuring an enchanting display from every viewpoint.
