The redevelopment of the former K West Hotel into Hotel Indigo London K West Shepherd’s Bush celebrates the building’s past as the BBC’s Kensington House recording studios, where artists including David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley once recorded. This cultural legacy informed a design approach centred on storytelling, atmosphere and layered materiality.
Northern Lights supplied two bespoke lighting features designed to reinforce this narrative at key touchpoints within the hotel interior.

The sculptural feature chandelier is formed from three tiered rings with fifteen brass pans arranged in a dynamic composition. Each element supports reeded glass globes finished in a warm amber lacquer, creating a soft, atmospheric diffusion of light. The metalwork is finished in medium antique, enhancing the sense of depth and material richness while reinforcing the chandelier’s role as a focal point within the space.

We also crafted a wall-mounted “On Air” illuminated sign finished in rich Roman bronze. Laser-cut lettering is set against an opal acrylic diffuser, referencing the building’s broadcast heritage while introducing a subtle illuminated gesture within the interior scheme.
The bespoke lighting balances sculptural impact with contextual storytelling, enhancing the guest experience through light, form and heritage reference.
