Set within the former Manchester & Salford Bank - an architectural gem dating back to 1862 - The Cut & Craft Manchester brings sophisticated dining to the heart of the city. Designed by Studio Two Interiors and delivered by Dawnvale, this ambitious transformation celebrates the building’s rich history while introducing Cut & Craft’s signature brand of contemporary luxury.

A Story of Fortune and Light

Inspired by the flight of Fortuna, the Roman goddess of fortune, the design concept journeys through the building’s spaces, from the hidden vault rooms below, to the grandeur of the banking hall above. Our lighting designs respond to this layered narrative, enhancing each space with warmth, tactility, and British-crafted elegance.

The Gossip Lounge: Softness and Flow

In the intimate Gossip Lounge, a bespoke pendant light creates a welcoming focal point without overpowering the space. A cloche-shaped linen fabric shade, suspended within the hand-finished brass frame, introduces softness and fluidity. The delicate tassel detailing and neutral palette echo the space’s subtle luxury, inviting guests to relax and linger.

The Bar: Fixed Cordless Innovation

At the striking marble bar, a custom version of our Aster cordless lamp delivers both beauty and ingenuity. Mounted to the bar in a fixed configuration, each lamp features a marble disc base, reeded brass detailing, frosted cloche glass shade, and decorative finial. Inside the design, advanced rechargeable technology enables easy operation: the glass shade simply lifts off to allow the LED component to be taken to a charging point - no need to move the whole fixture. This elegant solution combines the flexibility of cordless design with the permanence required in a busy hospitality setting and is a key benefit of our whole rechargeable lighting collection.

Private Dining: Sculptural Drama in Smoked Glass

In the Private Dining Room, the smoked glass ceiling light introduces sculptural interest and layered light. Hand-shaped glass pieces, curved with soft fluidity, are mounted to a brass and mild steel frame.  The design is completed with a colour-matched Perspex panel and decorative cap nuts to provide structural integrity without interrupting the aesthetics. Collectively, the piece celebrated a quietly sophisticated interplay of materials. To retain fluidity across the space, we also supplied the smoked glass pieces for the dramatic five-tiered chandeliers.

Ambient Layers: Bespoke Floor, Table and Wall Lighting

Throughout the restaurant, bespoke lighting inspired by our Heslop range creates a rich tapestry of ambient light. Each table and floor lamp features a luxurious marble base paired with a reeded brass stem and tailored cloche shade - a perfect harmony of materiality and form.

Three distinct wall light designs were also developed for the project, including an extra-long steel fixture finished in Roman bronze with satin acrylic glass - providing subtle elongated highlights and framing the dining experience with understated elegance.

A Collaborative Vision

The Cut & Craft Manchester demanded an approach to the lighting that honoured the building’s extraordinary heritage. Through a fusion of expert craftsmanship, modern technology and traditional skills, our team of designers and artisans delivered a suite of bespoke lighting to enrich the storytelling and elevate the guest experience at this remarkable venue.
