BiBi

Bibi is Urdu for 'lady of the house' – a term of endearment for maternal figures. The traditionally Indian venue brings the very best of the country's expansive edible offerings and throws a delicately applied touch of fine dining into the mix.

Having sensed a gap in the market for contemporary Indian food made with best-of-British ingredients, his menu at BiBi delivers plate after plate of vibrant food.

The restaurant seats 33 guests and an additional 20 on the terrace. The high-end opening is backed by the JKS group, which owns Gymkhana and numerous other well-loved restaurants like Hoppers, Lyle's, and Bao. An open kitchen and bar run from front to back, and a row of tables running adjacent, all utilised as cosy booths that make the most of the narrow space.

Northern Lights were delighted to join JKS Restaurants on this assignment and to realise North End Design's vision for unusual furnishings and opulent fabrics and wall coverings by providing gorgeous bespoke lighting fixtures that not only complemented the scheme but brought a personalised touch to both the diners and the kitchen. The award-winning London restaurant group specialise in innovative, boundary-pushing and genuine hospitality.

The range of lighting required for the project included a mixture of fittings from our standard range, both original and variant designs, and new bespoke designs specified for the project. The overall theme of the fixtures was a stunning combination of deeply rich Georgian brass metalwork and handcrafted ribbed glass.

Running along the dining bar that would widely be considered the 'Chef's Table', our stunning bar top table lamps bring a very personable source of lighting to guests who dine there. The clear reeded borosilicate glass shades are fixed to a hand-rolled Georgian brass arm that resembles a miniature streetlamp. Sitting flush to the wall directly above the dining bar is an entire row of reeded clear glass globes, all attached to Georgian brass pans and fixed with matching gallery screws to complement not only the adjacent lighting but the entire well-considered scheme.

Sitting gracefully on the walls, our Solti and Racine wall lights share the same characteristics as the lamps surrounding the dining bar. They perfectly represent the Northern Lights brand by utilising our most refined materials and finishing to deliver contemporary decorative lighting.

Solti embodies everything we stand for - immense beauty and quality finishes. This small family of eye-catching wall lights comprises single and twin variations, of which BiBi opted to display the single version. Georgian brass meets beautifully crafted clear fluted glass to create a subtle yet impactful design that complements the scheme perfectly.

A contemporary take on a traditional oil lamp, our Racine wall light has become a design classic. Its hand-blown fluted glass shade and simple rounded old English brass backplate have a modern country feel that looks equally at home in BiBi's luxurious interior.
