Although living in central London has its many perks - the best restaurants, access to some of the finest museums in the world, the West End and more - space is not always one of them.

There is no shortage of gorgeous properties in the capital, but a good amount of square footage is at the top of many buyers' lists, especially post-pandemic. This is no problem for the properties that form the 9 Millbank development in Westminster.

Originally part of the Imperial Chemical House designed by Sir Frank Baines and built in 1929 and now a Grade II listed building, Goddard Littlefair worked skilfully to restore and transform intricate historical features.

Intricately carved door frames and luxurious timber panelling to ornate decorative plasterwork are details embraced throughout the apartment's design. Located alongside the iconic Houses of Parliament, Lambeth Bridge and Headquarters of MI5, The Conrad offers the epitome of luxury living within the heart of central London.

The team at Northern Lights was elated to design bespoke lighting fixtures that would subsequently be used to bring decadence to the £27.5m property. With extensive ground to cover, the brief was very challenging. It relied on a collective knowledge covering various decorative artistic lighting styles, from gorgeous crystal chandeliers overlooking the living areas to intimate dining room cluster pendants.

Our bespoke three-sphere pendant has been positioned directly above the purpose-built island in the kitchen. The beautifully crafted fixture comprises a handcrafted brushed brass framework and polished bronze chain links with a matching suspension rod. The light is accentuated by the introduction of white glass spheres with a frosted finish to maintain the ambience in the room perfectly.

In the dining room, our three-lantern over-table pendant brings a sense of traditional design to the scheme by implementing classically designed candle holders encased by satin brass frames. The comforting aura is flawlessly refracted by textured glass that has been hand-cut by our skilled artisans. The 3-metre long fixture ties the room together by marrying the more traditional elements in the wooden cladding and the oak dining table with red velvet chairs.

Our bespoke antique style chandeliers adorn the living areas, complete with fabric detailing. The traditionally conceptualised fittings have been realised by taking typical Italian influence and considering 1920s French chateau chic. The fixtures look especially effective as they hover above a stunning grand piano and a beautifully composed open-plan living room. The fittings comprise a metal finish in satin brass and utilise decorative fabrics to hide the chain links that suspend them. Each chandelier is adorned with several faceted 'drops' moulded from clear glass.
