Hilton London Croydon

Gone are the days when the 8 miles separating Croydon from London meant it was considered the perfect rural town to host the UK's first international airport. Croydon is now a destination in its own right as a hub for some of the UK's most ambitious and exciting start-up businesses.

Thoughtfully designed by ICA, the Glasgow-based powerhouse, the first thing you notice when you walk through the hotel entrance is the double floor atrium with an immensely theatrical yet deceptively delicate, double-tiered chandelier.

This modern centrepiece measures 5m across and 3m in length and has 52 tube drops in a hand-applied bespoke brass finish suspended from a blackened steel frame. To warmly diffuse the light and create volume but not weight, half of the tubes have a machine-cut acrylic disc that the illuminated LED tips bounce off.

Elsewhere, our designers echoed the impressive foyer chandelier by providing a similarly designed pendant to sit over office-styled meeting desks. The same brushed brass tube lighting sits neatly above the desk to provide immersive lighting for those meeting beneath it, benefiting from a smart blackened steel frame with matching drop rods and ceiling roses for additional style and substance.

In the bar area, single drop pendant lighting styled on our iconic foyer chandelier has been lined above the bar seating to marry with the surrounding communal areas' aesthetic. Each light is complete with an acrylic disc and a matching brass ceiling plate.

We also created a brushed brass globe pendant that sits above a single dining table to the back of the communal area, marrying with the other wonderful brass elements displayed throughout the scheme but with a slight tweak. The threaded matt opal globes emit a warming light that enhances the stunning hand-applied finish on the Deco-inspired arms.

Finally, the communal seating area is graced with our Deco-inspired brushed brass floor lights. Benefiting from brass detailing on the underside of the lamps, each lamp has been internally weighted to stabilise the fixtures and keep them anchored to their respective areas.

With our bespoke lighting along with the exquisitely upholstered furniture by Furniture Fusion, ICA have created a Hotel that truly represents the new Croydon while respecting its past.
