Large-scale acrylic rods feature

Opened in August 2014, the Next Home and Garden store in Hedge End, Hampshire is the most recent development using the new store format which unites fashion, homeware and gardening on one site.

The retail design consultancy Dalziel and Pow created a contemporary premium shopping environment focusing on encouraging visitors to explore Next 'lifestyle' options. They appointed Northern Lights to develop a central feature of acrylic rods for the Women's Shoe and Accessories Department.

Working from the designer's inspirational images in conjunction with the shop floor layout, we quickly outlined the structure of the central feature. Materials, installation method and cost were also proposed and approved.

The final installation consists of three rows of acrylic rods suspended on long thin individual wires. Each rod is 2m long with a suspension wire length ranging from two to three metres. Following the oval shape of the shoe display area, the feature makes an impressive focal point without distracting the visitor's attention from the merchandise.
